Quarantine
Even though I have been spending my time in quarantine over the last week or so, I’ve been lucky enough to be able to continue working from home. I’ve also been able to spend my free time working on the blog, reading, and taking some time to just slow down for a bit.
Since I wasn’t driving to work, I was able to sleep in a little and to catch up on some rest. And, since I was home, I was able to eat a hot breakfast and take more time preparing lunch. Losing the drive home meant I could dive into non-work items right away as well, allowing me more time for reading and other projects.
It helped, of course, that I was not sick, so I could utilize my time for other pursuits. For my coworkers who did ultimately test positive, I’m sure the quarantine time period was much less productive or restorative. Thankfully, the people on my team all had mild cases and no one required hospitalization or emergency medical care.
Since I work with a vulnerable population, my company and my team take quarantining very seriously. Most of us also have vulnerable people within our own households as well. But since we were sort of all in it together, we kept in touch via texts and chats throughout the quarantine time, picking up the spirits of those who were quarantining alone, and sending care packages to those who needed them. I think that was another factor that made the time go by faster and made the quarantine process a little easier this time around.
I know that I have been incredibly lucky. I’ve been quarantined 3 times now, each time with close contact to someone who tested positive, but I have not gotten sick. I hope that remains the case until we finally get this pandemic under control.
