I’ve always wanted to design my own readathon, not that I have a following large enough to draw any attention. But I really enjoy the Dewey’s readathons every year, and have considered joining some of the others, but they have come at times that are not quite convenient for me. There are so many different types of readathons out there, that I’ve often played with what I would do if I actually did put a readathon together. Here’s what I’ve come up with…

My readathon would last an entire week (7 days) and would have a different theme and challenges for each day, plus an overall Bingo-type challenge board.

The week-long challenge board would have squares to cross off for different reading milestones (read for an uninterrupted hour, finish a book, read a chapter, etc.). The daily challenges would center around the theme for the day (the current season, a certain color, music, TV, etc.).

And in an ideal world, where I had the funds; I would provide a prize for each participant, like the medals you receive for 5Ks; except it would be book related, like an event themed bookmark. And I would want to have a raffle entry for people who complete the challenge board to win other prizes.

Readers would be able to read whatever they wanted, there would be no theme as far as the subject matter, like you see in some readathons that focus on ARCs or ebooks or certain genres.

Essentially, it would be a week long celebration of books and the joy of reading. Maybe I’ll put it together someday… or at least put a trial run together for myself to test.
