So Many Spreadsheets
I love making spreadsheets. One of my favorite things to do when I was working was to make various spreadsheets for different projects. I’ve been using all of the time on my hands over the past several months to create some reading related spreadsheets.
I currently have 4 reading related spreadsheets that I use on a regular basis, and have created a 5th for 2025. While they don’t contain all of my books (my Goodreads shelves contain my complete TBR), they help me keep track of the critical reads I am focusing on.
Currently Reading
This is my main spreadsheet. It is broken down into 5 separate pages: Current Audio reads, Audio TBR, Kindle, Physical, & Series ARCS.
Current Audio reads is all of the audio books I currently have checked out or on hold from the library. I list the title, % completed, current chapter, total chapters, remaining chapters, remaining time, days left on loan, which library (I have 2 cards), whether it is part of a series, and whether it needs a review. I change my reading order based on categories every week. I sort by % completed, remaining chapters, remaining time, and days left on loan.
Audio TBR is a list of the next books to check out. I have already verified that one or both of my libraries have this book in audio format.
Kindle includes both the books that I am currently reading on Kindle and the TBR order to read them in. At least half of this list is eARCS. My breakdown on this list is similar to audio- title, % completed, current chapter, total chapters, remaining chapters, series, review.
Like Kindle, the physical list includes both currently reading and TBR order. These are all books that I own. My breakdown here is title, current chapter, total chapters, chapters remaining, current page, total pages, pages remaining, series.
1000 Book Project
I’ve talked about this project in another post, but I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of all of the books on each of the 10 separate lists. Each of the lists has it’s own page. These lists are fairly simple with just the title and a checkbox for when it is completed.
Reviews
This is my simplest spreadsheet, as it only consists of one page. On it I list all of the eARCs I have received. I include the title, author, and publication date. I usually sort this by publication date.
Series
This is my newest spreadsheet and is actually still in the process of being moved from a simple list into spreadsheet form. There are 3 pages for this one, series not yet started, series in progress, and series completed. I list by series title, author, number of books in the series, and then have checkboxes for each of the books in the series to check off as they are read.
2025 Reading Stats
I’ll be talking more about this last spreadsheet in a post next month where I talk about my reading log for 2025. Essentially, I have a page for each month to log the books I’ve read, author, rating, and then I have breakdowns for the various things I want to track next year. I’m still tweaking a few things, but it will be ready to go January 1.
Reading Journey
Goodreads has been my go-to site for tracking all of my reading since I discovered it in 2011. I have a multitude of personalized shelves, tracking and sorting my TBR and books read. I’ve tried to switch to StoryGraph, but as much as I want to love the site, the interface does not play well with my brain, and I just can’t get it to work for my needs. I joined Fable to try it out, but am experiencing the same issues (plus they don’t have a site for tracking, just the app, and I prefer to use a site). With the way things are going, I’ve decided to pull away from Goodreads a bit, but don’t want to lose that data, so I am in the process of generating spreadsheets for my entire Goodreads history (TBR, Books Read, etc.), which is close to 10,000 books.
I love spreadsheets so of course I stopped to read about yours! Very cool! Thanks for sharing. I myself only have one + Goodreads but I didn’t keep up with updating the spreadsheet this year. You’d think since I love them it would be easy to keep up with them, but no.
