Review~ No Place Like Here
This story revisits characters from one of the author’s previous books, It Starts With Goodbye, so you get a new perspective on the previous story and move forward in the aftermath.
While there is a romantic element to the story, the real focus is on Ashlyn’s personal growth and discovering who she really is, plus the rebuilding and redefining of family.
Ashlyn has been through a lot and made a lot of mistakes, she feels completely isolated from her family and like she can never live up to her father’s exacting standards. But he has failed her way more than she could have ever failed him. My heart broke for her in the beginning, finding out about her father’s crimes via social media, wanting to come home, but finding that her parents are pretty much ghosting her.
Thankfully Ashlyn was up to the challenge and found support in her aunt and uncle, as well as her cousin (after a rocky start). Through dealing with a challenging supervisor, a player, and building her relationship with her cousin and some new friends, Ashlyn figures out that she can do big things, and also finds some things that she really enjoys.
Ashlyn works on her relationship with her mother and begins to see her father through new eyes.
Hannah and Baxter were great support to Ashlyn on her journey and helped her find herself amidst all the crazy. I hope we get to see where things go between Ashlyn and Baxter down the road.
