At Home Reading Retreat

I have always wanted to do a reading retreat. Ideally in a cabin on a lake or on a beach somewhere. Obviously this isn’t something that can happen any time in the near future for me, so I have come up with a plan for an at home reading retreat. Actually, I’ve created a plan for a mini retreat and a full retreat.

My mom is supposed to visit my aunt at some point over the next couple of months. Nothing is planned yet, so we don’t know when that will be, but I plan to hold my full retreat during that time. I’ll have the house to myself, so I’ll be able to immerse fully into my reading. But I’m planning my mini-retreat for next weekend.

Obviously, I don’t know what books I’ll be reading during either retreat yet. It all depends on how many books I finish over the next week or so, as far as the mini retreat. And then the main retreat TBR will be determined when I have dates.

But I do have additional activities in mind. Since the full retreat will be at least 5 days, I plan to do some pampering self-care and a bit of crafting while listening to audiobooks. I’ll also do my usual computer work as well. And I plan to watch movie and TV show adaptations of favorite books during my reading breaks.

And I have a menu planned. The weekend retreat will be mostly things that require no cooking, since I will be confined in my room and don’t want to take a lot of time away from reading over the 2 days. But the main readathon will be lots of healthy, indulgent food with fruit and yogurt parfaits for breakfast, grazing charcuterie for snacking, and some of my favorites for dinner, like pasta with roasted veggies, and then a coconut cake for a treat in evenings.

I’m really excited, especially for the main retreat. Now I just need my mom and my aunt to plan their trip so I can plan too!
