Bookish Drama

There always seems to be some sort of bookish drama going around. And I almost always seem to miss it. I only find out afterwards (or in the middle) when people are commenting about whatever was said or done. But rarely do I see the initial offending comment in the wild. And I am not sorry about that!
In order to protect my mental health, I have worked really hard to curate my social media feeds to avoid most of the toxicity that seems to frequent any social media site. The creation of social media has allowed for amazing connections with people around the world, but it also gives people a sense on anonymity and the license to say whatever they want, no matter how vile. I have tried to limit that in my small part of the world.
But really, what is all the bookish drama about? Occasionally, it’s a legit issue that is called out, but most of the time it’s something silly, like an author calling a sub a sub and not a hoagie (iykyk). Or it’s the same 5 issues recycled over and over.
- Do not tag authors in reviews- reviews are for readers
- Do not reach out to the author to critique their work- it’s not your place.
- Romance novels require an HEA- without one it’s a romantic plot but not a Romance.
- Audiobooks are reading- any other take is ableist
- Reading is, and always has been, political
I’m just going to stay here, reading my books, writing my blog, and staying out of the drama as much as possible!
