Creating a Practice
While I have been interested in Buddhism for several years, it’s only been recently when I have thought about starting my own practice. I’ve attempted to meditate several times over the years, and never really had any success. But I also wasn’t really meditating in the right way… at least in a way that would be reflective of a Buddhist practice.
Ideally, I would like to find a Dharma center, though I suspect that will be difficult where I live. I may need to look to the larger city an hour away to find a teacher locally. I do have a favorite teacher from books that I’ve read, but ultimately I’d like to have someone local as well.
While I’m searching for my teacher, I am starting a new meditation practice following one of the paths outlined by Buddha. As I mentioned in a previous post, I don’t currently aspire to become a buddha, but I would like to bring more of the Buddhist philosophy into my life. Through meditation, I will be able to start down one of the paths. A teacher will help me to make sure it is the right path for my goals.
