Gratitude
For most of my adult life, I have tried to look for the positives in every situation and to focus on things I am grateful for. This has been difficult over the last couple of months as I have been processing what happened and where I go from here. I honestly still don’t know, but I’m trying.
Many years ago I started keeping a gratitude journal. I haven’t used it religiously, but every so often I will make entries for a while, reminding myself of the good things in my life. Sometimes, like now, it can be really hard to come up with things and my list contains things like Dr Pepper and the existence of Taylor Swift. Over the last week or so, I’ve started using it again. I haven’t come up with anything earth shattering yet, but I think it helps.
I have good days and bad days, but I have always found that trying to focus on the things I’m grateful for helps me have more good days.
Here was today’s list of things that I am grateful for:
- confirming a diagnosis that I have suspected for some time, which provides a lot of insight into why I have always struggled socially
- being able to watch the Great British Bake Off over and over… even when I know who wins and who goes home
- sleeping for 12 hours, because I needed it
- knowing that warm weather with lots of sunshine is coming this week
- finishing 2 more books this week.
