How the 100 Book Project Turned into the 1000 Book Project
A few years ago, I put together a list of 100 books and series that I wanted to finish in my lifetime. This included a couple of prolific series that are still growing. When you added all of the books from each series, the list currently totals 268 books. I referred to this as my 100 Book Project.
Initially, I didn’t put a lot of focus on the list, it was just there in the background of all of the other books I was trying to read. I made some progress, but not a lot. In 2023, I started making this list more of a priority and added a second list of 100 more books and series to complete. But it wasn’t until this year that I really zeroed in on this list.
Once I really started focusing on the 100 Book Project, I started wanting to expand the list more and more. I now have 10 separate lists, each containing approximately 75 stand-alone and 25 series. So instead of the 100 Book Project, it has now become the 1000 Book Project, though it contains closer to 2000 books (1939).
If I read nothing besides books on these lists, I could finish in about 12 1/2 years at my current pace. But I’m also reading eARCs and focusing on finishing all of the series I have that are partially completed. The truth is it will take closer to 20 years or more to finish this project, and I’ll probably just want to keep adding onto it until it becomes the 10,000 Book Project or larger. But at least I’ll never run out of thing to read!
