If I Could Buy Books Today
It’s been really hard for me to not be able to buy books right now. I mean, I love buying books in the best of times, but with the state of the world and the attacks on books and libraries, I definitely want to both be able to support authors AND to be able to own physical copies of endangered books. But, I do always have a “winning lottery ticket” list that runs through my head, so if I had the means to buy books today, this is what I would be buying…
- All the Queer books: everything by LGBTQIA+ authors that I can get my hands on, especially books by Trans authors and most especially by Trans authors of color. Young Adult and Middle Grade reads are a high priority here as well.
- Books by Black authors, Latin authors, Native authors, South Asian authors, East Asian authors: basically everything that I can get my hands on by authors of color.
- Books by neurodivergent and disabled authors: this included chronically ill authors as well.
- Books by Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, and Sikh authors: basically books by authors practicing any religion other than Christianity.
- Spicy Romance: anything with on the page sex scenes that groups are attempting to criminalize
- Books featuring strong female characters leading rebellions: for inspiration.
- Ultimately any and every book or author that is coming under fire, from most vulnerable to least.
Now I just need to somehow get my hands on a winning lottery ticket so I can make this happen.
