Readathon

It’s Readathon Day!

It’s time for the April 2025 Dewey’s 24-hour Readathon! I will be spending my day (from 5am 4/26 to 5am 4/27) reading as much as I can. I might sleep for a bit, but I will do my best to stay up for as much of the readathon as possible. I will also be posting updates on social media and here on the this post throughout the day.

Of course, I have been feeling a bit under the weather and my sleep cycle is totally screwed up, so it’s entirely possible that I will sleep through the bulk of the readathon. But, I have put together some goals and my personal Bingo board, and I have made an hourly tracker and some graphics to post to Insta at key points in the event. I’ve also stocked up on snacks and am ready to go!

I set my goals pretty high (for me), so I may fail spectacularly or I may exceed my own expectations. It’s all fun so there’s no pressure whether I hit the goals or not, so I just decided to shoot for the moon and see where I land. I have stayed awake for the entire readathon twice (out of 17 total readathons over 6 years). So, here are my goals:

  • Awake at start (5am 4/26)
  • Awake at end (5am 4/27)
  • Finish 3 books
  • Interact on Discord
  • Posts photos and graphics
  • Stay awake for at least 20 hours

And here’s the Bingo board I made for this event:

And finally, here’s my TBR:

You Say it First by Katie Cotugno
Triple Sec by T.J. Alexander
Waiting for Friday Night by Synithia Williams
The Reunion by Beth Reekles
Conspiracy in Death by J.D. Robb

I’ll be back to update at the 6 hour mark (11am)! (If I’m awake)

So we are 6 hours into the readathon and I already needed at 90 minute nap. I was only able to sleep about 4 hours last night and woke up around 2:30am. I haven’t finished anything yet, though I should finish my first book within the next hour. Here’s my current Bingo Board:

I know I won’t be getting a blackout since I won’t be awake for the entire event now, but the rest of the squares are still possible.

Books currently in process:

The Reunion (ebook)
Conspiracy in Death (physical)
You Say it First (audio)

Snack/beverage-wise, I’ve had water and a pressed-juice, mini powdered donuts, fresh melon & pineapple, and some sour cream & onion goldfish crisps.

I’ll be back again at the halfway point (5pm) with another update.

Alrighty, I am back at the halfway point after another (longer) nap. At this point I have collectively slept for 4 hours, so if I nap again (and it’s certainly a possibility), I won’t hit my 20 hour goal. But that’s ok, since it’s all in fun anyway. The good news is with as messed up as my sleep cycle is, I usually sleep during the day and am up all or most of the night right now, so I might be good to go to the end.

I finished You Say it First and have moved on to Triple Sec for my audio. I’ve also finished another chapter of The Reunion. (For those who are new to reading my blog, I have been experiencing really bad eyestrain, so it takes me forever to read physical or eBooks because I can only read a little bit at a time. Audiobooks have been my saving grace and I consume them like crazy).

I didn’t really snack much during this last quarter, but I did have my salad for lunch and a Dr Pepper. I’ll be making dinner fairly soon.

I did add some more squares to my bingo as well:

Next check in will be at hour 18 (11pm).

It’s 11pm in Oregon! I have been so tired during this entire readathon, I feel like I am just moving through sludge. I knew if was going to be tough when I didn’t get much sleep last night, but I didn’t know it was going to be this bad. I took another nap, this time about 45 minutes. I’m hoping I’m awake for the rest of the night, but we’ll see.

I’ve finished another chapter in both The Reunion and Conspiracy in Death and I’m about 2/3 of the way through Triple Sec. I should finish Triple Sec tonight.

As far as food, I had pepperoni & sausage pizza for dinner and some more water, but didn’t eat anything else during this time.

I now have a BINGO and a couple more that are close. There are 2 squares I won’t meet (all night and 20 hours), but I’m close to more BINGOs as well.

I will do one final update at 5am when the event ends!

And we have now come to the end of another readathon. I actually made it through the final quarter of the event without a nap, haha. That might be because I had a Petey’s Bing Raz (raspberry energy drink). I also got a bit snacky in the final 6 hours and had a mini chocolate truffle cheesecake, a few Trolli Sour Brite Crawlers, and some brie with rosemary crackers. But I also have lots of leftover snacks for the rest of the week.

Reading-wise, I finished Triple Sec and started Waiting for Friday Night, getting through 42%. So my final total is 2+ audio books, plus 3 chapters each in my ebook and physical books.

My BINGO board was left with 3 unused spaces: stay awake for entire event, read for 20 hours (I completed 19 hours), and finish 3 books. But I did get a total of 6 BINGOs.

All in all, I had a successful readathon.
