Lessons I Learned from COVID
I learned some simple but powerful lessons when I got hit with COVID last month. I wasn’t prepared, and I live pretty far out where same day store delivery really isn’t an option.
- Always have extra drinking water on hand. You never know when you won’t be able to get more. And when your water is trucked in every month, planning on having extra on tap is not a solution.
- Always have the basic cold & flu relief meds on hand. I had neither cough drops nor NyQuil, nor anything of the sort. I did find that there is one store who would Door Dash out to where I live… but it’s Dollar General, so options are limited. I was able to get some cough drops though, and more water and orange juice.
- Always have orange juice on hand. My body always craves vitamin C when I’m under the weather, so having a bottle of orange juice in the fridge is a must.
- Some people are more willing to help than others. Know who you can count on, and who not to rely on to help you out. And sometimes it’s not the people you think (ie family).
- A truly special team, is truly special… I already knew that, but it was reinforced by my team sending care packages and dropping things by the house that I needed during the week. They are truly wonderful people and it is a privilege to lead them.
- Understand that recovery can be slow, and don’t push it.
Yes, most of this is just common sense stuff, but when you are sick and miserable, it does well to remember it all in advance!
