LGBTQIA+

Pride Month 2024

Because I live in an area where I really don’t feel safe joining in the Pride events alone (very conservative, lots of Trump flags), I decided that I’m going to hold my very own virtual pride celebration this year. Last year I focused on a Pride themed TBR in June, which I will do again this year, but I wanted to take it a little further. So this year I will also be watching LGBTQIA+ themed movies, listening to a Pride inspired playlist and posting Pride themed content to my social media. I’m also making a couple of Pride themed crafts that I will share as well.

Today I want to share the 30 movies and 30 books that I want to get through in June. I may not get through all 30 books, but I’m going to try (I did it in January, so it’s possible).

Since I can’t guarantee that I’ll be able to find I Wish You All the Best anywhere locally (currently not available) before the end of June, I’m looking for an alternate movie to fill it’s place. Worst case scenario, I’ll probably go with Fellow Travelers and just binge the series.

There is also a risk that the books I currently have on hold won’t come available in time as well, but I’m not as worried there. I own enough LGBTQIA+ books to easily cover several months, so finding an alternate should be a piece of cake. (Which is good considering I had to make some last minute adjustments since I finished 3 LGBTQIA+ books this week and had to remove them from my list).

Other than that, I have been creating some graphics on Canva for social media, and will take some photos of various Pride pieces I have. Since I am not fully out to my family, I don’t have a lot, and what I do have is mostly subtle. And my playlist for June is stacked with a lot of music by LGBTQIA+ artists like Lil Nas X, Brandi Carlile, Sam Smith, Jason Mraz, Miley Cyrus, Queen, Elton John, Wrabel, Adam Lambert, Hayley Kiyoko, etc. (it also includes my regular songs that are on every monthly playlist and a mix of Taylor Swift).
