Review~ Come As You Are

Come As You Are
In this opposites attract romance for fans of Begin Again and Better Than the Movies, a fresh start doesn't have to mean changing yourself. Hot on the heels of a broken heart, Everett “Evie” Riley arrives at Camden Academy ready for a new beginning - one far away from her cheating ex-boyfriend, the sister who stole him, and the best friend who let it happen. But her fresh start is stopped in its tracks when she's accidentally placed in…

This was a fun read with some of my favorite characters of the year, so far.

I would say that the idea of a girl being assigned to a boys dorm at a private high school based on her name was ridiculous, if I hadn’t gone to school with a guy who as assigned to a girls PE class because of his name. But the way the school made it seem like it was her fault was terrible.

I really liked Evie and I completely understood her anger at her sister and her best friend. I don’t know that I would have gone so far as to go away to boarding school to get away from everyone, but I relate with the need to get away and to try to change herself based on what went down. And I liked the way she was presented with another take on how her best friend may have felt about the situation, opening the door for a possible reconciliation down the road.

As for everyone else, the twins, Salem and Sabrina, are by far my favorite characters. The way they interact with each other and with Evie separately is fantastic and what true friends and siblings should be like. But Matt, Heather, and to an extent Isabel, all proved themselves to be reliable friends as well.

I loved the relationship between Evie and Salem, starting out as as deal to benefit them both, evolving into a caring friendship, and developing from there. I especially loved parent’s weekend where Evie met his and Sabrina’s parents and she discovered his given name.

There are some bad choices made by both of them, feelings get hurt, but ultimately true friendship wins out for everyone who deserves it. As does true love in the end.
