A spoiled heiress must investigate her grandmother’s death in order to gain back her trust fund, all while discovering how to be her own person and maybe even falling in love in this “enormously fun, witty, and warm” (Kristen Perrin, nationally bestselling author) rom-com meets murder mystery that is perfect for fans of Only Murders in the Building. When Pomona Afton, Upper East Side hotel heiress, stumbles out of a gala and upon the scene of…

I knew when I accepted this ARC that it was outside my normal genres, but I liked the sound of it and wanted to give it a try. I’m so glad I did because I really enjoyed it.

I generally don’t read a lot of mysteries because I am a skimmer, and always skim ahead, so I usually know what’s coming. And even when I don’t skim ahead, I usually predict the plot twists and know “who done it” long before the end. But this one kept me guessing (and entertained) throughout.

Pomona is a type of character that I would normally dislike. She is spoiled and self-absorbed and pays no attention to the people around her… unless they move in her social circle. But Pomona also has some redeeming qualities, including a hidden vulnerability. She has absolutely no clue what to do with herself when she loses everything, but amazingly she does rise to the occasion.

Her attempts to figure out her life and to find out who murdered her grandmother take some unexpected and sometimes humorous turns. As well as some heartbreaking ones. She learns things about her family and herself that forever change her.

I love the relationship that develops between Pom and Gabe. He is initially reluctant to take her in and help her out, but ends up completely invested in her investigation. And he champions her where no one else ever has.

I had a lot of fun reading this one, especially when Pomona and Gabe caught the killer.

I’m already reading the second book now!
