Can they do what’s right…without betraying their hearts? Senatorial candidate Byron Robidoux always does the right thing. And, after years of focus and dedication, his life and campaign are going exactly to plan—until a blackmailer jeopardizes everything. No one is supposed to know that thirteen years ago, Byron told a lie to protect a college friend. And now that lie could destroy his career…and threaten the woman he never stopped loving. Zoe Hammond hardly recognizes…

This is the second book in the Jackson Falls series and can be read as a stand-alone, but you miss some of the back story on the Robidoux family if you skip the first book. It’s not necessary to follow the story in this book, but adds an extra layer.

Byron is a good guy who got into politics with good reasons. He has his moments, like his engagement of convenience to help his campaign, but all in all really cares about his community and wants to help. He also goes out of his way to help Zoe and Lilah.

Zoe comes from a pretty rough background and has a hard time trusting men or feeling like she deserves love. Byron’s parents (mainly his mother) didn’t help matters when they sent her away when she and Byron were in college. She tries to do everything herself and is very hesitant to accept help. Lilah gets a lot of this from her as well, and is a bit head-strong.

There are a lot of plot twists and turns with blackmailers, threats, arson, car accidents, kidnappings, and interference from Grant Robidoux, Byron’s father. There’s also misunderstandings and well-intentioned secret-keeping that causes chaos as well.

All in all, I love the Robidoux family (with the exception of Grant and his fiancee Patricia), and look forward to reading Elaina’s story (and the rest of the series).
