He’s never met a rule he didn’t break… She’s followed the rules her whole life… When they meet, one golden rule is established: stay away. They were supposed to ignore each other and respect that fine line between them… Guillermo Lozano is getting a fresh start. New town, new school, and no more reckless behavior. He’s done his time, and now he needs to right his wrongs. But when his work at the local community…

Another enjoyable read from Ms. Grandison! I am always a sucker for the bad boy who changes his ways, and Guillermo was definitely a bad boy before the story begins. I also like that he isn’t changing for a girl, but for himself and for his family.

Guillermo is very protective, but also a bit of a gentleman. He befriends those that are kind of outcasts from the rest of the school, but are really just others dealing with their own issues… unfounded rumors, cheating girlfriends, and overbearing fathers. But he sees who they are and helps them to come out of their shells a bit more.

Regan does what is expected of her, from dating the star football player to studying accounting, neither of which are things she chose for herself. Because she has done everything her parents, especially her father, has wanted her to do, she doesn’t really know what she wants for herself. Until she meets Guillermo and he helps her figure out who she is and what she wants to do with her life.

They aren’t supposed to be friends, but are drawn to each other. Guillermo’s community service is where Regan volunteers (in a program run by Regan’s mom), they are lab partners in chemistry, they live across the street from each other, Guillermo is good friends with her little brother. A friendship develops between them, even while they both develop feelings for the other. But Regan has a boyfriend, and Guillermo is not going down that road again.

I love the characters and character development in this story. I even kind of like that not all of the characters change their minds by the end of the story. I did feel like a big climax was coming to shatter everything, but it never came, and the transitions seemed to happen easier than I expected.

All in all, I definitely recommend this one!
