Top Ten Tuesday~ 2023 Bookish Goals

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Every week, Jana assigns a topic and creates a post for everyone to link to.

This week’s topic is: Bookish Goals for 2023. I did share my goals for this year in December. But there weren’t 10 of them, so I’ll add some that were unspoken or posted separately.

  1. Post at least 4 reviews per month– ideally I’d like to do 8 reviews per month, but if I can post 52 total reviews this year, I will consider that a huge win!
  2. Increase Net Galley ratio to 57% or better– I was at 36% at the start of December and am at 42% right now. I may be able to get it higher than 57%, especially if I can do 104 reviews this year.
  3. No new review requests until caught up to current– I’ve been good about not requesting any more reviews, or saying yes to tour requests, while I’m trying to improve my ratio, but every so often an email comes along, or something pops up in Read Now and I give in. This year there needs to be no giving in to temptation!
  4. Read at least 75 books for the year– If I hit all of my goals, I’ll probably double this goal, but I didn’t want to put too much pressure on myself and set a super high goal again.
  5. Read at least 24 books from my 100 books/series list– This is a list I put together of a combination of 100 books and series that I want to read in my lifetime. With the series included, there’s actually about 265 books on the the list. As I’m working my way through it, I’m already thinking about my next 100. But this year I am planning to cross off at least 24 books from the current list.
  6. Re-read at least 1 book per month– I have an entire bookshelf full of books that I want to re-read, some of them over and over.  This year I’d like to get through at least 12 of them.
  7. Read at least 36 books from the library– I check out a lot of audio books, because that’s the easiest way for me to read right now (I need to get my prescription updated because my eyes are fatiguing way to quickly right now). So this should be a fairly easy one.
  8. Complete the LGBTQ+ reading challenge bingo board– There are 25 different squares and I’ve already completed 2 of them. There are two that I am going to struggle with though, because they are outside my normal reading categories- a queer mystery or thriller and queer horror. I do read the occasional mystery or thriller, but I never read horror.
  9. Read at least 1 work related book per month– there are a few topics that fill this goal; books on leadership, communication, specific IDD diagnoses, developmental disabilities in general, polyvagal theory and more. Luckily I’ve curated an entire (small) library of these topics for my team, so I have plenty of books to choose from.
  10. Complete 12 series– I LOVE series, and currently have so many that are in various states of completion. I want to finish everything that I have just one book left to read, and maybe a few that have more books left as well.
