Read, Readathon

Reversing the Readathon… in July

I’m gearing up for my next readathon- the Reverse Readathon put on by Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon. What makes it reverse, you ask? Instead of starting at 8am Saturday morning (5am my time zone) and ending at 8am Sunday morning, the reverse readathon starts at 8pm (5pm my time zone) Friday night and ends at 8pm Saturday night.

For those of us night owls who don’t do so well in the morning, this is the ideal time, because I usually don’t have a problem being awake at the start and end of the event, unlike the traditionally formatted readathon. It also works for all of those international readers for whom the traditional times have them starting at 1am or 2pm, or other such randomly weird times.

I planned a mini getaway at the end of my birthday vacation for the readathon this year (it takes place July 22nd-23rd). And will be snuggling up in a hotel room free from distractions to get as much reading done as I can. Then I’ll catch up on my sleep Saturday night before heading home on Sunday afternoon. I can’t wait!

Of course, staying in a hotel means that I will have to modify my snack game a bit, but I’m already starting to put together a list of yummy, hotel room friendly foods that I can bring.

Do you readathon? Have you ever travelled for the readathon? Have you ever done a reading retreat with others (that’s my next reading goal… maybe in 2023)?
