Book Buying

One of my favorite hobbies is buying books. It doesn’t matter if it’s online or in person, I can spend hours browsing through the titles for something I just need to take home with me. Strangely, I seem to have more control over online book shopping than I do in person… the table displays get me every time.

I have recently made a few changes to my book buying, mostly because I am able to afford more books than I was previously. But here are my current book buying habits…

Kindle Daily Deals/ Monthly Deals

Every day, I check the Kindle daily deals to pick up anything that looks good. I also check the monthly deals the first week of every month. This is usually when I find most of the Kindle books I acquire each month.

Book Drop Subscription Box

Every month I receive a new romance book from an indie bookstore. I’ve gotten some great titles so far.

Work Library Donations

I also order 1-2 books for my work’s library each month that I donate. I have a library specifically for our front line team as well as a leadership library for the office team.

My Top Ten New Releases

This year, I’ve also started picking up my Top Ten Most Anticipated Releases each month. Some I preorder, others I just wait for them to come out. Most are purchased in physical form, aside from a few that are part of series that I currently only own digitally. Right now I have a rule that I don’t pay more than a certain amount for Kindle books for myself (unless I have a gift card), so there are 2 books I’m waiting to go on sale that were on my January list. I might modify that policy for just these books though… we’ll see.

Random

If I happen to find myself at the bookstore in person, or I have a few extra funds and feel like making a discount book order, I generally just grab whatever sounds good or has been on my wishlist for a while. Because I can go a little crazy in bookstores, I try to have either a spending limit or a list of approved purchases before I head inside.

Do you have any book buying habits that you tend to follow, or do you just buy what you feel like whenever? Or perhaps you are on a book buying ban (something I have attempted but never been able to follow)?
