Since I am once again looking for work and feeling woefully unprepared to get back out into that world again, I thought I would take some time today to try to manifest my dream job. What would I do if I could do anything and make a living at it?

My dream job would involve me being surrounded by books, of course. I would travel to various book destinations: publishing houses, conferences, bookstores, literary landmarks, presses, etc. and write about my experiences. I would interview authors, agents, editors, publishers, etc. And I would read and review books. Basically I would devote my time to reading and writing about books and sharing the entire experience with the world.

I could do an online magazine about the book world and explore the process of publishing a book from start to finish. I would include not just the writing and acquisition of books, but the manufacturing and distribution as well. There could be in depth articles looking at the demographics of diverse books/authors/readers. But ultimately it would be a celebration of books.

That’s the dream anyway. I can’t even get readers on this blog, so I don’t know how I would be able to drive and sustain an entire magazine and all that entails.
