Re-reading
Do you enjoy re-reading? This seems to be one of those hit or miss things for people. Some people love to read their favorite books over and over again, sometimes spending more time re-reading than reading new books. Others don’t like to re-visit books they’ve already read and take a more one and done approach to reading.
Until about 10 years ago or so, I didn’t re-read books. I just didn’t see the need. Then I discovered a few books, mostly non-fiction at first, that hit me a certain way and made me want to re-read them again… and again. After that a few fiction series touched me a certain way, and I decided to spend time re-reading some of them. I’ve discovered a different type of enjoyment in revisiting characters that I love and experiencing their stories again.
Over time the list of books I want to re-read has grown. Now I have a bookcase dedicated to books that I’ve loved and want to revisit again. And again. My focus is still on the books I have yet to read, because let’s be honest, the list is long, but I generally have at least one re-read on the go.
I’ve never felt the need to reread either, my memory is pretty good so rereading gives me an uncomfortable sense of deja vu that interferes in getting lost in the story.
