Cleat Cute meets Friday Night Lights in this funny, spicy, emotional new romance from Jodie Slaughter. "Watching these two determined Sapphics scheme and smolder at one another is gloriously popcorn-worthy — and as always, Slaughter knows how to bring the heat." - The New York Times Jade Dunn has spent years trying to climb her way to the top of the southern high school football food chain. Now, the only thing standing between her and that future head coach…

Jade and Francesca are rival teachers, though they teach different subjects, but they also both have their eye on coaching spots with their high school’s football team.

Jade is currently a coach on the team and is in the running to take over as head coach when the current coach retires. As a woman, it’s rare for her to be a coach in general, let alone head coach. She refuses to let anything get in her way, including her attraction to Francesca, seeing her as a threat and feeling like having a second woman on the coaching staff could lessen her chances.

Francesca just wants to coach again. She loves the game and used to coach back in Texas, though not at the high school level. She starts volunteering with the team as she tries to earn her spot. While she gives as good as she gets in her rivalry with Jade, Francesca sees no reason why they both can’t get what they want.

As happens with all good rivals to lovers, the antagonism between them soon turns to passion. After a rough start, they’re both all in. But after Jade makes a mistake, will they both get what they want on the field as well?

This was a fun look at high school football in the South, as well as the role women play in the sport.
