Sleep Quality
I honestly don’t know if my sleep quality has ever been good. Truthfully, I’ve suffered from hormonally induced insomnia for as long as I can remember. And it seems the older I get, the worse my sleep gets. Some nights I get pretty deep sleep, but I never sleep through the night any more… and haven’t for a few years.
I am considering trying to get a referral to a sleep specialist, or doing a sleep study, or whatever that actually is. I’m fairly certain I have sleep apnea, and I wake up gasping, feeling like I can’t breathe, on way too many occasions. In the meantime, I continue to track my sleep cycles, which don’t always track accurately, and I take an herbal sleep supplement to help me fall asleep. A friend recently suggested sleep meditation, so I want to give that a try as well.
On the average, I get about 6-7 hours of sleep each night. I can function on that and am used to it, but I remain tired throughout the day and often want to nap, so I know that I’m not operating at my best. The rare occasion when I’m able to get 9 solid hours of sleep is when I feel the absolute best, but that only happens about once every 6 months or so.
I feel like I’m not alone in this… I think there have to be a lot of people who struggle with sleep as well. What do you do?
