The Quest to Fix My Net Galley Ratio

I have issues with impulse control, and when I first joined Net Galley several years ago, I went a little crazy with the Read Nows and the requests. It doesn’t help that my reading preferences are quite broad and varied, because that just means there are so many more options!

Over time I would go through phases where I would be really good about not requesting a ton of books, only to grab a bunch more from the Read Now section. And then I was invited to join Harlequin’s book tours, which brought even more titles. You can see where I’m going, right?

I have always intended to review every eARC that I have received through Net Galley. I just don’t read as fast as I sometimes think I do. I also go through phases and sometimes have a hard time getting into a book, so I set it aside. And where has all of this gotten me? With 9 pages of books on my Net Galley shelf and a 40% completion rate… not good!

One of my goals for 2023 is to significantly raise my Net Galley ratio and to complete at least 4 reviews per month (that’s 48 books). As long as I don’t request any new books, that should raise my ratio to 57%. It’s still a long way from the goal of 80%, but it’s a dramatic improvement from the 38% it was just a few months ago.

Do you ever over-request?
