Comfort Re-reads
Not everyone likes to re-read favorite books, but I have found that it’s something I really enjoy. In fact, because my shelves are so full and there are so many books out there that I want to read, the only books I keep now are ones that I want to read again (and again). All other books are either donated or gifted when I finish them.
I have a separate bookcase that houses all of these favorites that I’ve kept to re-read. I group them by series or author, and it makes it very easy to tell who my favorites are, because their books end up filling the shelves. I’ve recently gotten to the point that this bookcase is almost full and I’m going to need to find more room. (I have a couple of ideas for this).
Some books I read over and over again, maybe every year or two. Others I re-read once and decide that it’s enough and I don’t need to keep it forever. In those instances, the book is donated or gifted at that time.
I used to keep ALL of my books until it became unmanageable, so this system works for me. And while I would prefer to purchase physical copies of all the books on my TBR, I am more likely to buy books in digital format until I know I’m going to love it (cost and space saver). Or I’ll check it out from the library and really save on money and space.
I don’t keep every 5-star read, though they do make up the bulk of my comfort re-reads. Some of my re-reads are 4-star reads as well, because something about them just makes me want to visit them again. If I find a series that I love, I keep the entire series, even if there is a book or two that doesn’t work for me, otherwise re-reads would be difficult.
There is generally at least one re-read in my “currently reading” list on Goodreads, sometimes I’ll have more than one re-read happening at a time (but I also have a few dozen books on the go at any given time).
What do you think of re-reads? Do you enjoy them or skip them?
