Pen Pals Wanted

Last week I posted talking about seeking connections as part of my healing process. One of the ways that I am hoping to connect with people is by finding some pen pals to write to and get to know. I also shared a form to fill out if anyone was interested.

I have boxes of note cards and stamps at the ready, still looking for more people who would like to become friends. I am super socially awkward and have a difficult time making friends IRL, so I’m hoping I do better with pen pals who may someday turn into good friends.

Here are some more things about me that may help you decide if you want to be my friend:

I will talk forever about books (romance, young adult, some fantasy & scifi, LGBTQIA+), Red, White & Royal Blue (both the book and the movie), FRIENDS, 9-1-1 Lonestar, The Great British Baking Show, and Taylor Swift.

I currently live in Oregon and have previously lived in Washington (Seattle & Everett) and spent most of my life in California (San Diego from birth to almost 40). I love water and miss being able to drive out to the beach on my day off to watch the waves (I currently live 90+ minutes from the closest coastal area). Rivers and lakes will do in a pinch when I need a water fix. Fun note- I won’t swim anywhere other than a pool but I love being on a boat.

My birthday is in July and my sun sign is Cancer. I very much fit the profile in that I can be moody and am a homebody (which is why it’s weird that I love to travel when I have the means to do so). I would rather have friends over for a movie or game night than go out to a movie theater or club. I am also interested in tarot, crystals and am drawn to Buddhism (you may notice this from some of my book choices).

I love animals but am TERRIFIED of reptiles. I can spend hours sitting outside the red panda exhibit, watching them do their thing (even if that thing is just sleeping). But it freaks me out that my local zoo-ish place has the alligator exhibit right next to the red pandas- it’s stress inducing. But I also enjoy watching the lemurs, big cats, and just about everyone else (except the reptiles). I’m also a cat mom.

Let’s see… I’m 52, but I feel more like I’m 25. I never grew up (or got married or had kids). I collect stuffed animals, Eeyore items, and enamel pins and most things I own are pink. I even live with my mother (though that is to help her out since my dad passed away a few years ago).

I’m short (5’1″), currently work part-time for a LGBTQIA+ nonprofit, and am left-handed.

Is that enough to get things started? I have been known to overshare, but I don’t think I’ve dug into anything too personal here.

If you would like to learn more about me, let me know here.
