A bestselling romance author flees to Alaska to reinvent herself and write her first murder mystery, but the rugged resort proprietor soon has her fearing she’s living in a rom-com plot instead in this internationally bestselling debut by Victoria Lavine. Beloved romance author Margot Bradley has a dark secret: she doesn’t believe in Happily Ever Afters. Not for herself, not for her readers, and not even for her characters, for whom she secretly writes alternate endings…

I loved this book! It had everything I needed- snow, a moose, a dog, laughter, tears, and two people who are perfect for each other.

Margot is one of the most relatable main characters to me. She has been hurt all her life, first by her parents, then by her fiancé. It’s no wonder she struggles to believe in happily ever after, but she is still able to write it for her readers because she found a way to reconcile things with herself. I personally love the idea of her “Happily Never After” file where she writes alternate endings to her romance books. It’s so realistic though, that a crazy fan would hack into her computer and then share it with the world in the hopes of canceling her. There are some crazy people out there.

And then there’s Forrest. He dropped everything, including ground-breaking cancer research, to be there for his father when he had a stroke. He is torn between continuing the research that wasn’t in time to save his mother, or giving up everything for the parent he has left.

Neither of them want to fall in love, especially not with each other. But they are perfect for each other and are continually drawn together.

The wilds of Alaska are the perfect place for Margot to come to terms with her crumbling career and to try to take it in a new direction, and Forrest is the perfect person to help her rediscover love.

Their road is very bumpy, with lots of heartbreak along the way. But this story was beautiful. I loved Savannah and wanted to dump Ollie in a snowbank.
