Ghosts, a curse, found family and budding romance are at the center of this story.

Peter is the main character, a man with secrets and special skills. Peter has kept to himself since Jack, the love of his life passed away. He moves from town to town using his abilities, slipping in and out without getting to know anyone. At least until now.

Peter can see and interact with ghosts. And he seeks out angry ghosts whose problems he tries to solve to get them to cross over, or at least stop causing harm. And he’s been doing in for a very long time, after being cursed as a young man, over 200 years ago.

He ends up in a small town in Ohio, searching for an especially problematic ghost and runs into to people who don’t let him hide. From the children who sneak into the cemetery where he lives and works, to the cemetery director and a museum owner historian, these people insert themselves into his day to day. No matter how many times he tries to shut them out, they keep pushing themselves in.

Peter doesn’t want to feel love for anyone in order to protect his heart, but these people soon become his family. and he will do anything to protect them.

Samira and Sayed are siblings who meet Peter when they sneak into the cemetery and Samira gets lost. He bonds with both children after finding Samira, and the two frequently come back to visit. Sayed is the older of the two, though he is the one who is afraid of the cemetery and the thoughts of ghosts within. He trusts Peter and his protections. Samira is more reckless, always pushing the boundaries. She feels unwanted and in the way at home and seeks the comfort of a dangerous friend.

Neveah returned to town after her grandfather passed and lost her father shortly thereafter. She doesn’t know that his ghost follows her around the cemetery, watching over her. She and Peter begin to bond after working together, and he is soon helping outside of the cemetery as well.

And then there’s David, the historian and museum owner who is cataloging and researching the graves in the older section of the cemetery. Peter initially seeks him out for help with information as he attempt to find the malevolent ghost, but the two are drawn together. David has also lost his life partner (who remains as a ghost at the museum), but is open to the attraction he feels for Peter, though Peter is resistant to falling in love again.

The stories of all of these characters intertwine as Peter searches for the ghost he came to find. Peter finds himself opening up to all of them.

There are some scary points in the story as angry ghosts challenge the living, but as things come to a head there are some shocking revelations and a major plot twist that I never saw coming!
