A Bookish Life

I’ve always said that I wanted to live a bookish life, but I never really defined it. I think a bookish life is one that is filled with and focused on books. And I think right now, I am living a bookish life.

Now, my life isn’t 100% what I envision it could be, but my days are centered around books. The bulk of my waking time is spent either reading or blogging about books. I am lucky in that I can read while I am at work and am generally reading most if not all of my work day, usually audiobooks. If I’m not reading or blogging, I am usually on social media (bookstagram, bookthreads or booktok) interacting with other bookish people.

Now, what else would I envision as part of a bookish life that I don’t already have? I want to be surrounded by books and I want to spend time in places filled with books.

Right now I have my little book nook corner, which is definitely filled with books, but it is also very cramped so I am not able to spend a lot of time in it. And my room is so full of other stuff that I can’t spread the books out to fully surround me. The real dream is to have my own library, complete with comfy chairs, walls of books and a library ladder.

And the other is spending time in places filled with books. The library in my city is only open 2 days a week, for only a few hours each day. These days are while I am usually working or otherwise committed. The library near my work is much larger and open more frequently, but I don’t have a library card with them and would have to pay for one since I don’t live in the city. (It will never cease to make me angry that the people in my county voted to eliminate the county library system. I am just thankful that most of the cities started their own libraries, but they are no longer linked). One of these days when I have some extra funding, I’ll get a card. And we only have a small used book shop in the area, so I have to travel at least an hour to get to any real bookstores.

Someday I’ll have those last two pieces to make my bookish life complete. In the meantime, I’ll continue to focus my days on my favorite pastime!
