Call Ava romantic, but she thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers’ retreat in coastal Italy. She’s determined to finish writing the novel she’s been fantasizing about, even though it means leaving her…

I have always enjoyed Sophie Kinsella’s books and this is no different. It’s a fun, cute story, though a little predictable in places.

Ava is all over the place in her interests and totally scattered. She adores her friends and her dog and is overly optimistic about all things, sometimes having a hard time accepting reality.

Matt is very staid and set in his ways, seemingly a bit of a workaholic. He does as is expected of him by his family, even when it’s not what he wants. He keeps his feelings to himself, rarely sharing his true wants.

While Ava and Matt seemed so perfectly connected when they met at the retreat, once they are back in their real lives they are complete opposites who tend to butt heads. Their friends are also complete opposites.

This book was light and fun, though I was thrown off by the two time jumps that occurred towards the end of the book. They took me by surprise, but worked in the story. I think the first one was necessary to move the story forward, the second one happened a little abruptly at a very intense moment and was a little disconcerting.

Throughout the story, I wasn’t sure that Ava and Matt should end up together. I thought that he would ultimately hurt her. I did like the way the story ended though, and the understanding that the characters all came to.
