Checking In

It’s been about three weeks since I was laid off, so I thought I would check in and let you know how things are going.

I was quite lucky that my tax refund hit right when I got laid off (and my state refund was larger than expected), so that gives me a little cushion while I’m searching and waiting for unemployment to kick in. There aren’t a lot of jobs available in my area outside of health care (I live in a big retirement area), but I’m applying where I find things.

I’m hoping to stay local and not have to commute again, but if I can’t find something in this area, I may have to commute to the next county which houses one of the biggest universities in the area so has a lot more opportunity. It’s an hour away and would cost a fortune in gas, so it’s not ideal. I’ve done that commute before and really don’t want to do it again.

In the meantime, I’m working on projects around the house.
