Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon April 2023 Recap

Yesterday I participated in the April event for Dewey’s 24-Hour Readathon. Here’s how it went:

Reading

Books:

Pages:

Better Together- 35%-100% Finished! (audio)
Hurricane- 70%-100% Finished! (Kindle)
One Last Look- p 68-171 (103 pages, physical)
Mockingjay- p 101-264 (163 pages, physical)
Crystal Gardens- p 131-205 (74 pages, physical)

Snacks

I started the morning with donuts and some fruit, had a salad for lunch and french bread pizza for dinner. The rest of the day was a mix of sweet and savory snacks- chips, candy bar, sweet tarts, almonds. I didn’t come close to touching on all of my snack options. I still have popcorn, veggies & dip, yogurt, fruit snacks, olives & more candy that I can save for this week or my own impromptu readathon later.

Sleep

I had a difficult time falling (and staying) asleep on Friday night, so did a lot of tossing and turning. I wanted to get up around 4am to get everything ready for my 5am start time, but I actually woke up at 4:55am. Luckily I had prepped most of the stuff the night before. I was super groggy most of the morning through, because of the lack of sleep, so I ended up napping from 11am-12pm. I got tired again around 12am and thought about taking another nap, but ended up just taking a reading break instead.

Overall

This was one of my more successful readathons, at least as far as time reading is concerned. I have only completed the entire 24 hours once, usually I sleep for a few hours here and there, but this time I only slept for an hour during the event, so spent the majority of the remaining 23 hours reading (there was some food prep and bathroom trips included in there). I finished 2 books and made significant progress on the other three, which is exactly what I wanted to accomplish. So yeah, I’m really happy with how things turned out this time around.
