Reader Confessions

It’s been a while since I’ve shared any of my confessions, so I thought it was time to share again.

~ If I know an adaptation is coming, I prefer to see the movie first, before I read the book. This way I can visualize the character as the actor in the role. If not, I am usually disappointed by casting choices and the pieces that are left out.

~ Of course, there are books that I have read and loved that I think would make amazing movies, even though the thought of being disappointed scares me. I would still probably watch them though.

~ On that note, there are also a few movies that are terrible adaptations, but I still like them for themselves, separate from the book they were supposed to be based on. And others that are just terrible all around.

~ I do not have to have matching editions for my book series. In fact, they don’t even need to be the same format. I have several series that are a mix of paperback, hardback and Kindle. And even the paperbacks can be a mix of mass market and trade.

~ I have nothing against mass market paperbacks. While I now prefer trade paperbacks, I used to buy all mass market, long before I became a book blogger (or book blogging was even a thing).

~While I think rainbow shelves are pretty, I will never organize my shelves that way… I need some sort of order, even if it only makes sense in my own mind.

~ I read the last page first or at least skim through physical books before and while reading. If I’m concerned or curious in an ebook, I will look ahead as well, though this is more difficult. The only books I don’t look ahead are audio books.

~ I also read spoilers. Sometimes they affect whether I continue with a series. I actively look for reviews with spoilers if I need to know about something that happens (or doesn’t happen).

~ Sometimes I buy a book just because the cover is beautiful or I like the title, without even reading the synopsis.

~ I hate waiting for the next book in a series, so I will usually wait for the entire series (or most of it) has been released before I start it.
