Seasonal Reading

I’ve always been intrigued by the people who tailor their reading lists to the season. I’ve never done this, not even during the holiday season, I’ve always just read whatever looked good at the time. This meant that I was often reading a book set in the snow in the middle of the summer, or a summer lake house read in the midst of a snow storm. Last year I tried to change this a little bit, and tried to focus on some holiday-themed books during late November and December at least. I did ok with it. But I still find myself drawn to books more by mood than season.

In an attempt to allow for mood reading, I stopped creating monthly TBRs and focused on books that I wanted to read instead of books I needed to read for whatever reason. I found this helped a little, but not enough that I think it really made a difference. And I really miss putting together TBRs, so I decided it was time for another change.

For the remainder of 2021,or as long as this lasts if it doesn’t work, I’m going to try to have a monthly theme and only read books that are part of that theme during the month. I’ll pick a selection of books each month that fit the theme and try to only read from that list (I can add additional books that also fit the theme as well). I actually started this for June, and have only been reading books with a LGBTQIA+ main character this month. It’s been going really well, but part of that is because I actually own a lot of LGBTQIA+ books, so I have had a fairly large selection to choose from.

Here’s my plan:

July- Kindle

August- eARCs

September- Series

October- Mental Health

November- Nora Roberts

December- Holiday themed books
