Getting Healthy

One of my plans for this next year of my life is to work on getting healthy. Considering that I was in a place where I didn’t care what was happening with my own health for some time, my health is not in the best place right now. So I have a long way to go to get fully healthy again.
I’m starting fairly slowly; with some stretching, a healthy breakfast, drinking water, taking a multi-vitamin, and washing my face every morning. Each week I plan to continue to build on what I’ve been doing. I don’t expect miracles right away, but I believe that I will slowly get healthier as time goes on.
The thing that I am able to most control is eating. My eating is very disordered right now. With my sleep schedule having been fluctuating, I haven’t been eating regular meals or at regular times. One of the biggest things that I am concentrating on is eating at regular intervals and eating regular meals. Yes, my breakfast is at 3am and lunch is around 8 or 9am, but that’s perfectly fine as long as it adjusts as my sleep cycle adjusts.
The physical aspects of getting healthy are harder. With the hip and back pain I deal with every day, finding exercises that I can do right now is a challenge. Walking is incredibly painful for me, as well as anything that requires standing for longer than 5 minutes. I would love access to a pool for swimming or water aerobics, but that’s not possible at the moment, so instead I’m looking into some chair exercises and planning to use by mom’s pedals.
I’ll be doing some bodyweight strength exercises as well, things that are intended to strengthen my hips and back. Plus some arm, leg and core exercises of course. And stretching and yoga.
Like I said above, I’m starting super slow, building up my strength and endurance. Part of getting healthy will be losing weight, but that’s not my motivation, so I’m not concerned about it. The weight loss will happen through improving my eating and exercise, but my motivation for it is health. And since I can’t afford to go to the doctor, this is my best course of action for now.
I don’t have any plans to make this a regular feature on the blog (unless the interest is there). But I will update periodically, especially successes.
