This is Pride
It’s Pride month, which means a celebration of all things LGBTQIA+ in my life. I just wanted to share a quick post today to talk about some of the Pride-themed things I’ll be doing over this June.
I’ll be periodically posting some Pride-themed posts on Instagram this month. And pretty much all of my discussion posts this month will be discussing my favorite Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Pan, Poly, Trans, Ace, and Non-binary characters and love stories. I’ll be celebrating authors who are out and open members of the community, as well as characters with good representation from authors who may not be members of the community (I will never demand an author out themselves if they aren’t comfortable).
As I mentioned in my Wrap Up post for May, I did not choose a specific Pride TBR this year and am just continuing with the rolling TBR format that I set up last year. I believe in reading queer all year, not just during Pride, so even my existing TBR has several book centered around LGBTQIA+ casts. So far this year, roughly 20% of my total reads have featured LGBTQIA+ main characters, with many others featuring positive representation among supporting the cast.
Something I started last year, that I will be continuing again this year, is watching a movie starring LGBTQIA+ actors and/or featuring LGBTQIA+ characters. Most of my movies are re-watches this year, so I would welcome any recommendations if you have a favorite movie not featured on my list.
I would love to go to the local Pride Festival, but transportation is a huge problem for me (plus the whole social anxiety thing and living in a very conservative area, so not feeling safe thing), so I don’t think that will be happening… some day though.
How will you be celebrating Pride this month?
