Is Blogging a Thing of the Past?

As social media sites have taken off and various creator programs have popped up, I have to wonder if blogging is still relevant. There seem to be a lot fewer bloggers and not as much interest. But does that mean blogging is dead? Or just that the audience has split between platforms?

I used to read a ton of blogs across a variety of topics, but these days I tend to just stick to book blogs. I think that there are still blogs in all of the categories I used to read (especially books and pets), but there are noticeably fewer blog options. I’ve noticed that many of the bloggers I used to follow are no longer producing content. There could be a lot of different reasons for this. But, there are still a lot of bloggers (at least in bookish spaces), still producing quality content regularly.

And I think that there are still people reading blogs. I don’t get a ton of traffic, but I do get some. And my posts do get shared. And I know that I am reading other blogs as well. I check my Feedly feed almost every day and read through the new offerings from all of the bloggers I follow. There wouldn’t be a place like Feedly or Bloglovin’ if people stopped reading blogs altogether.

So, while blogs may no longer be as popular as they were before Tiktok and Substack and all the newer social media offerings, I do think they are still valid. In my opinion they are not a thing of the past and still have a place on the internet stage. Especially for topics like books, where it’s really all about the words.
