State of the Resistance

State of the Resistance~ July

Where do I even start this month? Things are continuing to deteriorate within the country, from lack of disaster response to  the brutality of ICE, to the corruption within the Supreme Court and Congress. In just 7 months we went from a country who wasn’t perfect, but was making progress in the right direction, to a country listed on the Human Rights Watch List, siding with dictators and war criminals. And now with the recent executive order to institutionalize those who are homeless or dealing with mental health or addiction issues. I just can’t put into words the depth of my revulsion for this administration.

It’s hard to stay focused or to feel as though I am doing enough… or anything of worth, really. But I can only do what I can do. Right now I’m choosing to focus on the attacks on the libraries and book bans. We are seeing some great results in some states, but there is still so much more work to do.

I am active with petitions and promoting marginalized authors at risk of being banned. I am also promoting libraries and their resources where I can. My county lost it’s library system several years ago, but I am recommending alternative options, especially those for kids, with the NY Public Library systems free digital cards for teens.

Some of the changes that are in progress for the blog will pertain to library and publishing news and featuring that information here.
