Capitalism as a Failed Experience

Let me preface this post by first saying I am not a political science major, I am just someone who learned about the difference between capitalism, socialism & communism in school. These are my just opinions as a human who has lived in a capitalistic society for the last 54 years.

While the idea of capitalism, supply & demand, hard work to earn money and pull yourself up, is nice; it hasn’t actually played out that way. The concept doesn’t take greed and desire for power into account. And unfortunately there are some humans who are driven by power, greed and control over others. This has brought us to our current state.

I grew up in a conservative household that believed strongly in capitalism and spoke out against socialism. A good work ethic was drilled into me, as well as the importance of working to pay your way. Jobs were for earning money and it didn’t matter whether you enjoyed them or not, you just endured. We didn’t have a lot of money, vacations didn’t exist, but everyone worked. And no one was happy.

Now, I understand that life is not all about work, or it shouldn’t be. And helping the community is probably one of the most important things any of us can do. There are far greater things in life than money and the obsession with it in this country is ridiculous. I, personally, would much rather feel fulfilled than be wealthy. I mean, when I do have money, I usually give most of it away.

In my opinion, capitalism has failed. All it has done is create divides between people and breed superiority and evilness. Until we can break away from the control corporations and the uber wealthy have on this country, we will never be free.
