Readathon Intentions

White Ceramic Teacup With Saucer Near Two Books Above Gray Floral Textile

Last year I completely lost my reading mojo and stepped back from a lot of things… the blog, social media, reading, AND my favorite readathon. This year, I had already decided that I was definitely going to participate in the October readathon, but I was undecided about April and August… well I decided, why not?!

I signed up for the April event for Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon last week. This year the event will be taking place on April 30th. I don’t have any grand plans in place for it (yet), and will most likely just participate from home. Though honestly, if I could somehow pull off a weekend away somewhere to read undisturbed for 24 hours this time around too, I would do it.

In past years I’ve tried to do a lot of cheerleading on the Twitter thread, posted periodic updates on the blog, guest-hosted certain hours, and taken lots of pictures for Instagram. This time, I think I’m just going to read. And I might invite some friends/coworkers to join me for at least part of it.

You are all welcome to join me as well! Learn more and sign up here!

And to answer one of the most asked questions- no it is not named for the founder of the Dewey Decimal System or the famous library cat. This Dewey was an avid reader and book blogger who started this readathon with some friends; when she passed away, her friends kept it going in her honor. It has been passed on to other readers through the years. The readathon is held every April and October. A “reverse” readathon was added a few years ago in August which switches the time from 8am-8am ET Saturday to Sunday to 8pm-8pm ET Friday to Saturday, so those on the other side of the world can start and end at a more convenient time.
