I have mixed feelings about this one. There are things I liked and things that didn’t work for me. All in all it’s a nice story, but there are definitely some aspects that were problematic for me.

I was initially drawn to the story because it is set in a boarding school, and I love boarding school stories. This is one of my favorite parts of the story. I also liked that Gracie exhibits some growth and makes friends throughout the story.

Gracie is not a very likeable character, in my opinion. She harbors a lot of anger at her parents (this is justified to an extent), has no friends, and believes that she is in love with one of her teachers. The story starts with her meltdown over discovering said teacher was getting married.

As the story progresses, she becomes friends with Wade (begrudgingly), starts taking advice from an older student who encourages her to smoke and have sex, and has a fling with Wade’s nemesis over vacation. And then ends up in a relationship with Wade and becomes friends with her roommate, before everything falls apart.

Wade has his own secrets as well and he and Gracie go from partners to adversaries. They have one more brief, meaningful encounter just after the end of the school year, when all the secrets are revealed. Just when it seems like things may be mending between them, another twist occurs.

The ending is kind of vague.
