I’m not sure that I was the right audience for this book. There were things that didn’t sit well with me, but there were also things that I enjoyed. Overall I liked the book, but it’s not my favorite from this author.

Cate is gifted and would prefer to use her talent to help others, not to manipulate them. She cares deeply for her friends and her sister and will do anything to protect them.

Callum has strong beliefs about the gifted after one let his mother die. He also cares deeply for his family and his country, of which he is the prince.

I’m going to start with what I didn’t like about the story and then finish off with the things I did like.

I had an issue with Cate’s gift. Not the gift itself, really, but the only way in which she could use it. It just felt icky to me.

I also had an issue with Harry’s relationship with Cate and her sister. To know the true nature of their relationship and to not share it is one thing, but to use them in the way he does is quite another.

Another issue I had was a certain character’s death. While other deaths in the story were important to the plotline and moved the story along, this character’s death did neither. It was unnecessarily cruel in my opinion and did not need to happen.

Mrs. M is just pure evil, and is meant to be, I didn’t like her character, but she is what she is supposed to be and this works.

Now for the other things I liked.

Callum’s relationship with his family, especially his sister, is beautiful. His love for them is apparent and real.

The relationship between Callum and Cate is also beautiful. I love their connection and how conflicted Cate is between doing what is best for her sister and doing what is best for Callum.

Cate is also Bi/Pan (never specified between the two) and is shown with both men and women before meeting Callum.

Overall, as I said, I did enjoy the story and will continue the series when the second book comes out.
