Friday Memes

Friday Memes~ 7/3/2026

I’m jumping back into memes this year, because I always had a lot of fun with them before I tried to get all serious. Each Friday I will be linking up with a few different memes. Here we go:

First up is Book Beginnings on Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader and First Line Friday hosted by Reading is My Superpower

How it works:  Share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

The Friday 56 was started by Freda @ Freda’s Voice, and is now hosted by Anne @ My Head is Full of Books.

How it works:

Grab a book, any book
*Turn to Page 56 or 56% in your Ereader
(If you want to improvise, go ahead!)
*Find a snippet, but no spoilers!
I will be using the same book each week for both of these prompts. This week’s book is: Jackaby by William Ritter.
First Line:

It was late January, and New England wore a fresh coat of snow as I stepped along the gangplank to the shore.

56:
Jackaby climbed to his feet, dusted off his coat, which clinked and jingled as the contents of various pockets resettled, and tossed his scarf back over one shoulder.
Next up is Book Blogger Hop hosted by Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer.
About Book Blogger Hop:
The first iteration of the Book Blogger Hop, which was started in March 2010 by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books, ended on December 31, 2012. On February 15, 2013, Billy reintroduced the hop with Jennifer’s approval. The hop will begin on a Friday of each week and end on a Thursday of the following week. Every week, there will be a prompt with a book-related query. The aim of the blog hop is to provide bloggers with an opportunity to follow other blogs, discover new books, make friends with other bloggers, and gain new followers for their own sites.
This week’s prompt:

Which book would make a killer soundtrack, and how would that soundtrack sound?

My answer:
This question required a lot of thought. I initially thought of it literally, as in what book would sound like a soundtrack. I don’t see the stories taking place in books like most people do, I tend to hear the story taking place. But the act of hearing a story is very different from hearing music, so nothing sounds like a soundtrack. But then I stepped back and looked at it differently, comparing the prose to lyrics. One of the most lyrically beautiful books that I’ve read is The Inexplicable Logic of My Life by Benjamin Alire Saenz. If this book were a soundtrack, it would be moody but ultimately hopeful, full of heartbroken ballads, but finishing with a glorious love song.
