Henry left her home town after college and hasn’t returned at Christmas for many years. Now she is in a position to save her career by betraying her family at Christmas. And she sees no other way.

Henry’s hometown is a little German village in Michigan, and her family adores Christmas. Her father founded the largest Christmas store in the country that draws people from all over the world. And Henry adored Christmas, at least until she grew up and moved away, focusing on business. Now she compares herself to the Grinch.

I struggled with Henry’s motivations throughout this story. I understood her wanting to keep her job, but at the expense of her family? No. Yes, she told herself that her betrayal could be good for her family, but even she didn’t believe it. And her family was  wonderful! Her parents were completely supportive of her, even when she moved away. She had conflict with her brother, but nothing that would justify her actions.

I did like her assistant, Bea, and how she kept trying to get Henry to do the right thing. And I liked Henry’s friends in town. Considering how she left her hometown and distanced herself from her family, I was surprised that she kept in touch with her childhood best friend.

Ultimately, this is a sweet Christmas story, though I felt the romance was a little rushed in the end.
