Top Ten Tuesday~ I NEED to Read This!

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together. Every week, Jana assigns a topic and creates a post for everyone to link to.

This week’s topic is: Things That Make Me Instantly Want to Read a Book. We all have those things that make us see a title or book cover and know that we must read it. Here are mine:

The Author

There are certain authors that I automatically know I want to read their next book, regardless of the synopsis. If I see a new book announced for these authors it automatically goes on my TBR. These authors include Nora Roberts, Jenn Bennett, Maggie Stiefvater, Sandhya Menon, Jayne Ann Krentz, Annabeth Albert, Rick Riordan, Kasie West, Nina LaCour, Gayle Forman, Christina Lauren, Aiden Thomas, Ashley Poston and more.

The Words Library or Bookstore in the Title

If the book is about books or places that house them, I probably want to read it.

Retelling of a Favorite Story

I tend to lean towards Cinderella or Jane Austen retellings, but I enjoy a lot of different fairy tale retellings as well.

Cats on the Cover

I am always drawn to cats on covers, especially on romance novels… bonus points if it’s a guy that’s into cats!

LGBTQIA+ Representation

If there is positive LGBTQIA+ rep in a book, I am probably going to read it, especially if one of both of the MC’s is Bi.

Takes Place Somewhere I’ve Lived

When the story takes place somewhere I know well, I love it. I grew up in San Diego and went to school in Los Angeles for two years, so stories taking place in Southern California have a special place in my heart. I’m also drawn to those that take place in Seattle, where I spent 5+ years, and small town Oregon, where I live now.

Dresses on the Cover

I have no idea what it is about dresses on covers of books, but I love that aesthetic. And I’m not talking about ball gowns on women, though those covers can be nice, but it’s the dresses on dress forms that actually really get my attention.

Blogger Main Character

I feel so connected to characters who are bloggers. Bonus points if they are a book blogger or a reader!

Title is Song Lyrics

Especially if it’s a song I know and love and then proceed to sing to myself every time I see the book cover.

Bright Colors

I love colorful covers, especially those with splashes of color… they seem happy.
