Review~ American Christmas

Disclaimer: I received an eARC for review consideration through NetGalley, on behalf of the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a novella and the final book in the Dreamers series. While it can be read as a stand-alone, there are a lot of references to the previous stories in the series and Yin and Ari’s relationship evolves over the course of the entire series, especially books 1 and 3, so reading the series in order is helpful.
The story takes place at Christmas, with both Yin and Ari wanting to make this holiday so special for the other, and dealing with the fallout when things don’t necessarily go to plan.
Yin has always felt supported by his sisters, even as he has struggled to assimilate into American culture. They have accepted his sexuality and his relationship with Ari from the beginning. But Yin also feels like he can be too needy and that Ari always gives in to Yin’s wants instead of being a true partnership.
Ari’s life has been rougher, from spending time in an immigration detention center when he arrived in the US, to a controlling, homophobic uncle who continually threatened Ari’s happiness. Ari has never known the security of a loving family and feels like he has to be the one to provide for himself and for Yin.
The beautiful story behind the story here is found family. Nesto (Ari & Yin’s boss), his family and friends, as well as Yin’s sisters, have all come together to create family for each other and for Ari and Yin. And this Christmas is no different, as everyone rallies to save the day.
I thought this was a wonderful ending to the series, and loved seeing all of the characters experiencing their happily ever afters.
