Review~ What You Are Looking For is in the Library

What You Are Looking For Is in the Library
For fans of Before the Coffee Gets Cold, a charming, internationally bestselling Japanese novel about how the perfect book recommendation can change a readers’ life. What are you looking for? So asks Tokyo’s most enigmatic librarian. For Sayuri Komachi is able to sense exactly what each visitor to her library is searching for and provide just the book recommendation to help them find it. A restless retail assistant looks to gain new skills, a mother tries to…

Disclaimer: I received an eARC through HTP Book Tours and NetGalley in exchange for a spotlight post and review consideration. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is told as 5 separate stories, each one having the community house library in common. The stories do have small overlapping characters as well, but in general are separate entities.

All of the characters visit the community house for a class, meeting, or market; and are drawn into the library where they interact with Ms. Kamachi, the librarian. She recommends a variety of books based on their inquiries, and gives them an extra bonus.

Each of the characters is dissatisfied with their current life and feels that something is missing, but they don’t know how to fix it. Through their visit to the library and their interaction with Ms. Kamachi, they find what they need to steer them in the right direction.

The characters are all very different from each other, in different stages of their lives. Tomoka is young and works as a shop clerk, where Natsumi is a married mother who works in publishing. Ryo is engaged and has a successful job, Hiroya is an unemployed artist living with his mother, and Masao is recently retired.

I really enjoyed all of the stories and how they intertwined. And I loved Ms. Kamachi and her felted bonus gifts and surprise book recommendations.
