Review~ The Romantic Tragedies of a Drama King

The title pretty much sums up the main character incredibly well, he is definitely a drama king.
Patrick (or Patch as he has nicknamed himself) is the center of his own world. Everything revolves around himself, his dreams, his immediate wants. He’s not necessarily oblivious to the needs of others, he just doesn’t really take them into consideration. This self-centeredness is really the cause of almost all of his problems, causing him to hurt others (whether intentionally or not) and, ultimately, himself. I would like to say that Patch grows over the course of the story and is more outwardly centered by the end, but that’s not necessarily true. He does show some growth, but no where near enough. But, he is only 16, so there’s still time.
Patch has the support of his best friend Jean (by whom he later feels betrayed), his mom and sister, and a couple of teachers he feels comfortable confiding in. Of course if they don’t agree with him, or seem to be friends with his “enemies”, then he cuts them off.
When he initially meets Peter and Sam, he decides one will be his boyfriend, he doesn’t really care which one, he just wants a boyfriend. But Sam is quiet and Patch decides that Sam doesn’t like him, and besides Sam gets the role that should have been Patch’s in the play, so he sets his sights on Peter.
Things do not go to plan, there are a lot of miscommunications, Patch feels as though he is the wronged party throughout (for the most part), but eventually starts building bridges.
After feeling like he was alone, Patch now has more friends, and more options in the romance department than he could have imagined, but there are still a lot of potential complications that the author doesn’t explore.
I agree with who it seems Patch will end up with, though the ending is a bit open and left me with some questions.
