Friday Memes~ 7/17/26

I’m jumping back into memes this year, because I always had a lot of fun with them before I tried to get all serious. Each Friday I will be linking up with a few different memes. Here we go:

First up is Book Beginnings on Fridays, hosted by Rose City Reader and First Line Friday hosted by Reading is My Superpower
How it works: Share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires. Please remember to include the title of the book and the author’s name.

The Friday 56 was started by Freda @ Freda’s Voice, and is now hosted by Anne @ My Head is Full of Books.
How it works:

First Line:
The wails Masi let out were so heartwrenching, you would think I was her only daughter lying dead before her instead of the parasite from her sister’s womb, as she had once called me.
The first iteration of the Book Blogger Hop, which was started in March 2010 by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books, ended on December 31, 2012. On February 15, 2013, Billy reintroduced the hop with Jennifer’s approval. The hop will begin on a Friday of each week and end on a Thursday of the following week. Every week, there will be a prompt with a book-related query. The aim of the blog hop is to provide bloggers with an opportunity to follow other blogs, discover new books, make friends with other bloggers, and gain new followers for their own sites.
Do you read one book at a time, or juggle a few at once?
My answer:
I always laugh when I see this question because I read so many books at the same time. I’ve tried to just read one book and I can’t do it. I don’t even just have one book per format that I read (though right now I am reading almost audio. I average at least 5 books at one time, though its usually closer to 7-10. And sometimes I have more books than that on the go. I have a short attention span and AuDHD, so there are days that I can be all over the place, other days I might hyperfocus on one or two books. I do usually have one “focus” book that gets more attention than the others, but never just one book going.

Very impressive. I have racing thoughts all the time. I don’t do well when the books are too similar. If I’m reading two romances with similar small-town settings or two mysteries with the same kind of setup, I start mixing up characters and details. That takes the fun out of it for me. Happy Reading!
That sounds like an emotional read.
I used to be able to read up to 3 books at a time, but since having my second son I can now only keep up with 1 and even that can be a struggle if there are lots of characters!
Have a great weekend!

I can’t tell what is happening in your book based on the blurbs. I guess I would have to read on. // I also usually have at least four books going at once, right now that number is five.
